Waipa District Council is planning for the long-term development and revitalisation of the Te Awamutu town centre (Heart of Te Awamutu).

The Heart of Te Awamutu project has reached the stage where a draft Design Concept has been developed. The Design Concept shows the location of each proposed project, while the project prioritisation list provides a description of each project, an initial estimate of cost, and the possible sources of funding.

The projects are grouped to reflect Council's proposed priorities (highes at the top). The timing of the projects will be confirmed having regard to community preferences and affordability. Some projects are expected to require significant (non-rate) funding before proceeding.

The Heart of Te Awamutu project signals major changes and investment over the next 10-20 years. The proposals include restricting trucks in the retail section of Alexandra Street and the development of a new Cultural Centre opposite the Events Centre.

The proposals are significant, so Council wants to make sure residents have their say.
