2010 Local Elections




Triennial elections for elected members of all Local Authorities and District Health Boards throughout New Zealand are to be conducted, by postal vote, on Saturday 9 October 2010.

The elections will be conducted under the provisions of:
 
  • Local Electoral Act 2001 (and amendments)
  • Local Electoral Regulations 2001 (and amendments)
  • Local Government Act 2002
  • New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act 2000 (and amendments)

23 July Candidate nominations open
23 July – 20 August Receipt of candidate nominations
12 Noon 20 August Candidate nominations close and roll closes
17 – 22 September Voting documents delivered by post
17 September – noon 9 October Voting period (includes Special Voting)
12 Noon 8 October Appointment of scrutineers
Midnight 8 October Removal of election signs
12 Noon 9 October Close of voting
9 October Preliminary results as soon as practicable after close of voting
11 – 20 October Declaration of results
