Animal Control

There are approximately 6000 dogs living in the Waipa District today, so whether or not you are a dog owner yourself, you are likely to encounter dogs in the community on a regular basis.

The Waipa District Policy on the control of dogs endeavours to balance the needs of dogs and their owners, while minimising any potential danger, distress or nuisance to the community.

In light of this we have designated a number of areas within the district that can be used as dog exercise areas (where dogs can be exercised freely off the leash) and other areas that are prohibited to dogs. Council also provides "Doggy-do" bins in each of the designated exercise areas.

See the Dog Control Bylaw overview and document (below) for more information.
