Food Premises Registration (new)

If you are planning to develop a new food business you will have dealings with Council with regard to a number of matters, including planning and resource consents, building consents, trade waste and food premises registration.

Once constructed, a food premises must be either registered by a Local Authority under the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974, or hold a Food Control Plan or Risk Management Plan approved by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) before food can be sold to the public. The Food Hygiene Regulations 1974 contain the requirements that registered food premises must comply with, including the physical standard of the premises, storage of food and conduct of staff.

The information sheet “A guide to developing a new food premises” summarises the process that such a development will need to follow. For further information on Food Control Programs and Risk Management Plans go to the NZFSA website at www.nzfsa.govt.nz For information on food safety training go to www.wintec.ac.nz.

Council generally arranges local training courses once or twice a year. To contact Waipa District Council email us on info@waipadc.govt.nz or call 0800 924 723.
