Te Awamutu Museum
a popular destination for locals and tourists alike - was established in 1935 and is the earliest museum in the Waikato region.
The Museum showcases local history and is home to the internationally significant taonga Uenuku, and the Finn Brothers, New Zealand Wars and Waikato Campaign collections. Many of the Waikato NZ Wars battle sites are within 5 minutes drive of Te Awamutu.
The Museum's collection comprises some 20,000 items. The archives are available for research by appointment, or we can conduct research on your behalf. The Museum provides educational programmes to over 4000 children each year.
We regularly run workshops, talks and events and offer a range of popular programmes and activities for children throughout the school holidays so there's always something to see and do.
