Bylaws
Bylaws currently being reviewed:
Feedback has been received on these bylaws and is being incorporated, where appropriate, into the revised bylaws.
The revised bylaws are scheduled to be publicly notified (in mid-September) when formal submissions can be made.
Background to the Trade Waste Bylaw and Wastewater Drainage Bylaws
Waipa District Council’s water services treat more than three billion litres of wastewater every year. Around four per cent, or 120 million litres, is generated by trade waste.
A safe, effective and reliable system for managing wastewater and trade waste is extremely important for public health and the environment because it protects land and waterways from contamination.
Why are these being reviewed?
Bylaw reviews are undertaken every five years to meet the requirements of the Local Government Act 2002 and keep Council bylaws up to date with relevant issues and changes in legislation.
What is the process?
Council has received initial feedback on the current bylaws to assist with identifying changes that may be required in the bylaws.
Formal submissions will be sought in mid September when the revised Bylaws are approved by Council. However, this early involvement allows staff to determine what issues and concerns there are and reflect these into the revised Bylaw for public submissions to be made.
If you have any questions or comments, or have problems accessing copies of the bylaws, please contact Council’s Community Planner, Shelley Monrad on (07) 872 0061 or email bylaws@waipadc.govt.nz
