WDC’s Quick Response to Dog Incident

4 May 2007

Waipa District Council takes all dog attacks and other offences very seriously, and responded within minutes to a recent dog incident.

After receiving a distress call, it was just 5 minutes before Animal Control Officers arrived at a Cambridge property to find a woman and small child trapped inside their house with a male pitbull type dog barking and snarling at the front door, attempting to enter the house.

The WDC Animal Control Officers managed to secure the animal and remove it from the scene, and it is currently being held at the dog pound.

The matter is still under investigation, however at this stage WDC have been unable to contact the owners of the dog, which appears to be unregistered.

The owners of the dog will be encouraged to sign the dog over to Council for destruction, but failing this, the appropriate enforcement action will be taken which may include a menacing classification, infringement fines or both.
