Contract Let and Work Dates Confirmed for Vaile Street

7 May 2007

Waipa District Council announces that a contract for the realignment of Vaile Street has been let to Potter’s Civil Engineering Contractors.  The Contractor’s Manager will be Steve Adam, and Council’s Supervisor will be Jenny Braithwaite.

Works will start on Wednesday May 16, for a targeted completion date of July 16.

The work includes improvements to the intersection of Teasdale and Bank Streets, construction of new pavements, installation of stormwater drains, new kerb and channels, new footpaths and streetlights, plus additional parking next to the Te Awamutu Medical Centre. New angle parking on Bank and Teasdale Streets is also planned.

These works will provide improved pedestrian crossing points, a designated pedestrian crossing to the Chemist on Teasdale St, additional parking and better traffic flow.  No private property will be disturbed.

The contractor plans to work from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, although some Saturday work is possible.  No work is scheduled for Sundays or public holidays.

There will be some disruption during the work.  Parking on Bank and Teasdale Streets will be restricted, and there is possibility of delays and congestion around the work site.  However, every effort will be made to keep inconvenience to a minimum, and signs will be displayed to assist pedestrians and motorists to negotiate the route safely.

Council would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while the works are in progress.
