Vaile St Realignment Progressing Well

19 June 2007

A month into the project, the Vaile St realignment is going well, and continues to be on target for an end of July finish date.

Work nearing completion includes new angle car parks in Bank St, a new footpath alongside ANZAC Green, and the new alignment of Vaile St.

Work starting in the week beginning June 25, will require some changes to traffic movement and parking. This is necessary to allow construction of the new parking area in front of the Medical Centre.  This means, for a couple of weeks, there will be no parking directly outside the Centre, however the new angle parks on Bank St will be available, along with existing spaces in Teasdale and Bank Streets.  The footpath outside the Centre will remain open for use.

Traffic has been one-way along Vaile St during the works, and will remain one-way in the short term.  However for the next phase of works it will be in the opposite direction, changing from east/west towards Teasdale St to west/east towards Bank St.

After the road works have been completed, the parts of ANZAC Green that have been disturbed will be reinstated.  Landscape architect Nicki Samuels has been engaged to prepare some designs to complete the project.
