Oak tree removal scheduled

2 July 2007

A large red oak tree in Dick Street, Cambridge, has been programmed for removal.

The Dick Street trees have been monitored by Council for the last 16 years, and over this time any that have reached a point where they are no longer safe have been removed.

Council’s monitoring programme enables trees to be retained for as long as possible, while keeping people and property safe.  This red oak tree has now reached the point that it requires removal, as there are concerns about the structural integrity of the tree, in particular the root system.

A meeting was held on-site recently between Dick Street residents, Council Recreation staff and Michael Fraser, the consultant aborist from Fraser’s Vegetation Management.  All those present were unanimous in their agreement that the tree should be removed.

The tree removal will take place, weather permitting, on Monday July 16.  Council’s Tree Maintenance Contractor, Treescape, estimate the work will take about a day to complete.  After the removal, a replacement tree will be planted.
