2010 Waipa District Youth Awards

Nominations are now open for this years Waipa District Youth Awards, which celebrate the achievements and successes of Waipa’s youth.

Mayor Alan Livingston encourages people to get their nomination forms in fast.

“The Waipa District Youth awards have recognised some outstanding achievers, including athletes, scholars, musicians and those who go out of their way to make our community a better place.  There are many very talented young people here, and these awards celebrate and acknowledge their commitment to excellence.”

There are five nomination categories:

Academic   For outstanding academic excellence
Arts and Culture For outstanding achievement in cultural fields, including arts and music
Community Service For offering invaluable care and assistance to the community
Leadership  For outstanding leadership
Sport   For outstanding achievement in sporting activities

Plus:

Multi Achiever For outstanding achievement in more than one of the above categories

Nominees need to be between the ages of 14 and 18 from 1 February 2009 to 31 January 2010, with all achievements being attained in the same time period.  The nominee must also have resided or been schooled in the Waipa District for at least six months during this time.

A detailed written application (including a photo) on an official nomination form is required.  Nominees can only be nominated for one category, plus the multi achiever, if there are strong credentials in more than one area of achievement.  Nomination forms are available from Council offices, libraries and high school offices.

Nominations close at 5pm, Friday April 16 , and may be posted or delivered to either Council office in Te Awamutu or Cambridge.
