Alexandra Street seats scheduled for removal

9 April 2009

The brick seating structures in the central section of Alexandra Street have been scheduled for removal in preparation for future pavement works, outside the Central Café and RSA buildings.

The main street will be undergoing a makeover later in the year as part of the Heart of Te Awamutu project, and Waipa DC’s Group Manager Strategic Policy and Planning Ross McNeil said the seats were being removed at the request of the Te Awamutu Community Board.

“The Board believe the areas are unsightly, unhygienic and unsafe, so have asked that they be replaced.  We will be incorporating new seating into the enhancement works that will be commencing later in the year, and in the meantime Council will investigate the need for temporary seating, which could be removed and reused elsewhere once the works get underway.”

The seat removals will begin on Friday April 17, and will be completed by McFalls contractors.
