Community feedback on the draft 10-year Plan, Waipa 2050 and Future Proof has been significant and very positive for the planning process, says 10-year Plan project manager Tracey Hancock.
“We received 630 submissions for the 10-year Plan this round, compared to 89 in 2006, which is fantastic. We trialled a new method of getting the information out to all households, and included a submission form to make the process easy, and have been thrilled with the response from our communities.”
A number of council’s around the country have reported that the number of submissions received have been on a par with, or less than what they have received in the past.
“Hearings for the 10-year Plan are being held this week, 12-14 May in Council Chambers, and 71 submitters have asked to be heard. People are welcome to attend to observe also” says Ms Hancock.
Last week hearings for Waipa 2050, the district’s growth strategy, were held and staff are now working through the details provided by submitters and reviewing the impact of decisions made. For more information go to www.waipa2050.co.nz.
Hearings for Future Proof, the combined growth strategy between Environment Waikato, Waipa, Waikato and Matamata-Piako Districts and Hamilton City, were held at Hamilton City Council on May 6-8. Deliberations, to review the details put forward by submitters, is the next step in the process to preparing the final strategy, and these are scheduled for May 14 and May 18.
