Entries are now open for the 2008 Natural Heritage Awards.
These Council-sponsored awards recognise voluntary protection and management of natural features, sites and habitats within our District, and include five categories.
- Habitat protection and management on private land
- Habitat development and management on a public reserve
- Retention, development and management of natural landscapes
- Natural heritage education
- Natural heritage tourism
To apply for one of these awards, a written application needs to be submitted to Council’s Project Manager for Heritage Development and Reserves Planning, Tony Roxburgh.
Mr Roxburgh says applications should be no more than about six pages long, and include a full description of the site, feature or project, the purpose of the work or the outcomes achieved, the involvement of people, how the project has influenced others, and future plans (or how the work will be sustained). Where possible, photographs and/or supporting information should be included.
“These awards are an opportunity for Council to publicly recognise and reward members of the public or conservation groups who have contributed to conserving natural heritage in the Waipa District” he says.
Applications close on April 30, with the awards ceremony expected to take place in May.
