Does Your Dog Have a Chip On Its Shoulder?

Micro chipping of dogs became compulsory on 1 July 2006 for all New Zealand dogs being registered for the first time (ever) on or after that date, so to assist in the process, Waipa District Council’s animal control department will be holding micro chipping clinics in December.

The first clinic will be at the Cambridge Dog Pound (Matos Segedin Drive) on December 2nd, between 4pm and 6pm.  The second clinic will be at the Kihikihi Dog Pound (Havelock St) on December 4th, between 4pm and 6pm.

Chipping costs $25 per dog, payable by cheque or cash (no Eftpos will be available).
If your dog is already chipped but you don’t have a veterinary certificate to verify this, staff can scan your dog to verify the chip number free of charge.

It is a quick and easy process and will be carried out by trained and experienced animal control officers.  No appointment will be necessary, but dogs must be on a leash at all times while attending a clinic.  Alternatively your dog can be chipped by your vet – please ensure you provide Council with a copy of the chip certificate so that your dog’s records can be updated.

Micro chipping is a quick and easy way to establish identity and ownership, especially important over the summer months if you are leaving your dog in the care of others while you holiday, or if you are taking your pet with you, and they like to “explore”.

For further information about micro chipping, or to have a clinic information sheet and directions sent to you, please phone (0800) 924 723.
