Waipa Home of Champions has launched a Facebook page aimed at helping event organisers reach a broader audience, and to encourage more visitors to the Waipa district.
Waipa Home of Champions is the Council’s brand for promoting the Waipa District.
Council’s community relationship manager Jeanette Tyrrell said the events “season” was about to begin with lots of activities planned around the district.
“We are putting a lot of effort into looking at new ways to support event organisers. While we are limited in the amount of funding support we can offer, we do have in-house expertise which we are happy to share when we can,” Ms Tyrrell said.
Facebook is an online gathering spot, where people connect with ‘friends’ or those who share a common interest. It is collaborative, meaning people who choose to follow a page, can add content to that page. Globally, more than 500 million people use Facebook to connect with friends and like-minded people.
The Waipa Home of Champions Facebook page can be accessed by anyone, regardless of whether they are a member of Facebook or not, at www.facebook.com/WaipaHomeofChampions. There is no cost to having a Facebook page.
“You don't need to be a Facebook member to access our page and see what we’re posting. But people who are on Facebook can join, post comments, add events, pictures and video, and help us build an online community interested in what's happening in the Waipa District,” Ms Tyrrell said.
“It's a win-win situation because it will encourage more people to come to our district and enjoy the events and facilities we have to offer.”
