The Heart of Te Awamutu steering group, comprising Cr Michael Cox, Cr Hazel Barnes, Cr Laurie Hoverd, Cr Graham Jull, Cr George Simmons and Community Board Chairman Dean Taylor, heard 19 submissions on the project recently.
The submission hearings, held in the Council Chambers, offered submitters the opportunity to further expand on the points they had raised in their submissions, and answer questions posed to them by the steering group.
Popular topics included heavy traffic in Alexandra Street, trees, parking, pedestrian crossings and the Te Awamutu museum.
Steering group chairman, Cr Michael Cox, was very pleased with the way the hearings went.
“We were delighted at the level of interest shown in the project, and the variety of suggestions put forward, many of which I anticipate will be reflected in the draft design concept”.
A total of 60 submissions were received.
