Kihikihi Domain – Have your say on its future management

Waipa District Council is now consulting with users and the wider community on the future development and management of the Kihikihi Domain.

The Domain is owned and administered by Council, and is widely recognised as a superb venue for equestrian activities and other events such as speedway, rugby, cricket and tennis.  A review of the existing management plan will shortly begin, with a view to preparing a new strategic plan.

Future options for the Domain could include recognising equestrian sports as being the primary use of the Domain (with other sports being secondary or ancillary), retaining a balanced or mixed use approach, or increasing the range of recreational opportunities.

Other issues to consider include the ongoing management of the Domain, the relationship with adjoining landowners whose land is used by some activities, and the compatibility between different Domain activities and future residential development.

Feedback from users and the wider community will assist Council in preparing a draft vision statement for the ongoing use, development and management of the Domain.  This vision statement will then guide Council in coordinating a combined draft Reserve Management Plan and Strategic Plan for Kihikihi Domain, which will be publicly notified later this year.

Once the plan has been adopted, it will support the preparation of the draft 10-year Plan, subsequent Annual Plans, and the upcoming review of the Waipa District Plan.
