Waipa District Council has outlined a timetable for the progressive ‘hand-over’ of the Mighty River Domain at Lake Karapiro in readiness for the World Rowing Championships.
Mighty River Domain
June 1:
Championship organisers will move into a small room in the events centre.
September 1:
Championship organisers take over the rest of the events centre, excluding the cultural room. The grandstand on the embankment will start being built and security fencing will start being erected around the entire site.
September 15:
Organisers move into the lower camping ground and skiffs will start arriving from international teams. From then until early October, the Rob Waddell lodge and chalets will be used by volunteers helping with the event.
October 1:
Championship organisers will take over the upper camping ground to begin building facilities for the athletes.
October 15:
International crews start arriving to take up residence.
October 30:
World Rowing Championships begins.
November 7:
World Rowing Championships end and athletes begin leaving the site.
Lake Karapiro
Access to parts of Lake Karapiro will start progressively being restricted from early October.
From October 4 – 17 zones 3, 4 ,5 and 6 will be closed to other lake users from 8am until 6pm.
From October 18 – 27 zones 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 will be closed from 6am until 7.30pm.
From October 27 – November 7, all zones will be completely closed to other lake users.
