Leamington Village upgrade: Information and Open Day

Community consultation for the Leamington CBD upgrade will shortly be getting underway, kicking off with an information open day on August 28.

The Open Day will be held at the Raleigh Street Christian Centre, between 3pm and 7pm.

Concept designs have been completed for the project, and Council will be seeking feedback on landscaping concepts, paving and street furniture and other general aspects of the proposed plan.  Brochures, information sheets and surveys will shortly be available, with responses needed by September 11.

Once feedback is received, Opus International Consultants who are project managers and engineers for the work, will put together detailed designs.

The upgrade will enhance and revitalise the Leamington retail area, providing improved access and facilities for both pedestrians and motorists, while developing an area that is safe, inviting and celebrates the heritage of Leamington.  It will extend from just north of the Raleigh Street intersection to the public toilet south of Campbell Street.

Shakespeare Street reconstruction will occur within a similar time frame, and will extend beyond the Village upgrade area to include intersections and some side-street work.

It is anticipated that upgrade work will begin in January 2009, to be completed by August 2009.
