Methcon Group in town to fight P epidemic

August 30 2010

Anti-P methamphetamine educator The Methcon Group will be in the Waipa District next month with a hard-hitting message about tackling New Zealand's growing P problem.

Methcon Group managing director and company founder Mike Sabin is a former police detective with several years' drug investigation experience,  specialising in methamphetamine manufacture. His company, MethCon Group, provides education, advice and specific training programmes about methamphetamine and other addictive drugs.

The company will spend time with secondary schools in the Waipa district delivering a graphic presentation on the drug P. A free community presentation for parents, healthcare workers, landlords and other interested parties will follow at St Peter's School Auditorium at 7pm on Tuesday, September 7 and Te Awamutu College Hall at 7pm on Wednesday, September 8.

"P and other harmful drugs are in our communities because we are largely apathetic and also ignorant of what these problems look like and how they actually impact on us all," Mr Sabin said.

"This presentation will give people the knowledge, awareness and skills to not only understand the problem, but help prevent its spread among our young people and our families.

"Understanding the problem is a big part of solving it and we are very grateful to Waipa District Council for providing this educational opportunity to help the community become a better, safer place to live," said Mr Sabin.

The presentation is part of a joint road safety strategy between local councils and the New Zealand Transport Agency.
