Data collected from 402 residents in June has been collated and summarised, with results showing similar opinions of Council and Council services to last year.
Overall rating of Council staff was 87% (very/fairly good/acceptable), which is similar to 2008, while satisfaction with the performance of the mayor and councillors rose from 85% to 88%, and the performance of community board members remained at 69%.
Waipa continues to rank very highly as a place to live by residents, with 34% of residents surveyed saying that Waipa District is a better place to live than it was three years ago, 53% felt it was the same, 3% said it was worse, and 10% unable to comment.
When talking about their quality of life, 61% of residents stated they were ‘very happy’ with their quality of life, 37% were ‘happy’ and 2% said that they were ‘unhappy’.
Areas of concern for Waipa residents were very similar to last year, with 30% not very satisfied with maintenance of roads, 20% with safety of roads, and 19% with swimming pools.
Group Manager Strategic Policy and Planning Ross McNeil says Council is justifiably pleased with the survey results and acknowledges more can and is being done to improve satisfaction levels in some areas.
“Waipa residents expect high standards of service, and the survey results generally reflect that Council is meeting these expectations. However, Council is not happy with the condition of some roads and, in anticipation of resident concerns, has increased funding in this area for this year and future years.”
A summary table of levels of satisfaction with various council services will be published in the September Word on Waipa.
