Nominations open for local government candidates

Nominations for candidates wishing to stand in this year’s local authority elections opened on Friday, 23 July.

Now is your chance to give local politics a go and have a say in the future of the Waipa District.

Waipa district's deputy electoral officer Jennie McFarlane says anyone wishing to stand as a candidate for Waipa District Council or the Te Awamutu community board should get their nominations in now. Nominations close at midday on Friday, 20 August.

Voting papers will be sent out from 17 September 2010 and must be mailed or delivered back to the council office by midday on election day, 9 October 2010.

Waipa District Council is holding an information evening on Tuesday, 27 July (change for CB Thursday, 29 July) for anyone interested in standing as a candidate.
