A resource consent for the Parachute music festival, held annually at Mystery Creek during Auckland Anniversary weekend, has been granted by Waipa District Council.
The previous five year consent for the four-day Christian music festival expired this year, so Parachute officials reapplied for another five year consent, which was granted after a four month submission and hearings process.
Council’s Planning Services Manager Wayne Allan says he is pleased with the continuous improvement of the management of the festival, with organisers consistently taking into consideration the views of surrounding residents at the debrief meeting after each event.
The new consent has a few extra conditions attached to ensure the festival does not negatively impact on the surrounding area.
“We have included a few new rules, such as a maximum of 40,000 people per day, with no more than 30,000 people camping overnight, extended noise monitoring until 12.30am and an annual review of the traffic management plan, so that any concerns can be quickly addressed” he says.
The appeal period of the consent runs until August 29.
