Rates rise confirmed

29 June 2010

Rates in the Waipa district will rise on average by 5.4 per cent next year.

The amount was finalised at today’s Council meeting following confirmation of the work programme for next year.  The amount represents a slight increase on the 5.2 per cent on avaerage  rates rise originally signalled earlier this year.

On average, urban ratepayers will pay an additional $2.05 per week.  Rural properties can expect to pay an additional $6.18 per week.

Confirmation of the 2010/11 work programme at today’s Council meeting followed submissions to the draft annual plan released in March.

After considering those submissions, Council agreed today  to spend $35,000 to support the initial design of a grandstand at Albert Park in Te Awamutu.  It also agreed to support a $50,000 contract with Gracelands for litter control services.

The rate increase has largely been driven by external factors including reduced revenue from development contributions, increased depreciation requirements and funding commitments from projects already underway.
