From Monday 23rd June, Cambridge Museum will join Te Awamutu Museum in being managed by Waipa District Council.
A Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed by Waipa District Council Chief Executive John Inglis, Cambridge Historical Society president Michael Cole, and Cambridge Historical Society treasurer Iris Thomas.
Cambridge Historical Society will retain ownership of the collection, which will stay in Cambridge. Existing staff have been offered, and accepted positions with Waipa DC – Eris Parker as Curator, and Susan Hague as Curatorial Assistant.
Waipa DC Museum and Heritage Manager Jan White, is thrilled with the new partnership, and the possibilities it offers.
“We are very excited with what the future holds, especially with the retention of Eris and Susan who bring with them a wealth of knowledge about the Cambridge area and the history associated with this. Cambridge Museum will retain its own identity, but will greatly benefit from the professional expertise and resources available from Council, and specialist staff at Te Awamutu Museum”.
As part of the new agreement, some important building repairs and minor renovations need to be completed, so the museum will be closed from Monday June 23 until Monday June 30. It will reopen on Tuesday July 1 at 10.00am.
