Storm takes its toll on Lochiel Road

A washout because of the recent weather has seen the forced closure of Lochiel Road.

The road has been closed 400m from its beginning because a large area, and the adjacent embankment, has slipped away into the gully below.

Waipa District Council staff identified further movement in the embankment so for public safety closed the road on August 8.  Remedial work using rockfill is now underway, which will be followed by reinstatement of the pavement.

Depending on upcoming weather, it is anticipated this work will take at least until the end of the week, but Council staff hope to have the road operational and open by mid next week.

While the road is under repair, alternative access is available for residents and Lochiel golfers via ‘Gate 0’ on Airport Road, which is opposite the Airport entrance.
