Te Awamutu and Kihkihi 2050 – What will our town be like?

25 May 2009

The recent Te Awamutu Town Planning vision workshop provided some excellent information for the Town Plan, with another workshop planned for Kihikihi on June 3.

Waipa 2050 project manager Fiona Hill says the attendance of 30 people to brainstorm a range of ideas about Te Awamutu into the future and give feedback on the Vision was a good result.  A workshop has also been held with a group of students from Te Awamutu College.

“Setting a Vision for Te Awamutu and Kihikihi is the first step for the Town Plan.  We asked the attendees what do you like most and least?, what do you think the town needs?, and what they thought the barriers and challenges were to achieving these improvements, and the feedback gave us a strong steer.”
The development of a draft Vision for Te Awamutu has been assisted by the Te Awamutu Vision Advisory Group, whose members include David Livingstone, Mike Livingstone, Chris Smith, Merv Gyde, Dean Taylor, Harold Maniapoto, Russell Easton, Carol Fraser, Peter Fraser, Gareth Duncan, Ken Hagan, Alan Empson, Gaidyn Flay and Ian Parlane. The group has been supported by Alan Livingston, Laurie Hoverd, Hazel Barnes, Graham Jull, Michael Cox and George Simmons.
If you were unable to attend the workshop, or would like to contribute your ideas, the questionnaire can be found at www.waipa2050.co.nz  along with the draft Vision Statement.  Informal feedback is being received until 5 June, and will help shape the Te Awamutu and Kihkihi Town Plan, which is scheduled to be completed by August.
