Turbine relocated at Mighty River Domain

8 March 2010

The 20 tonne turbine previously located in front of the old water sports complex at Mighty River Domain has now been relocated to allow car park and site works to be completed.

On its way to the Kopu bridge construction site, a mobile crane with a 220 tonne capacity made the slight detour to Karapiro for the relocation, which only took about five minutes.

Karapiro Development Project Manager Iain Paterson says the works continue to progress well.

“Everything is proceeding as programmed for the new Events and Community Centre, and it will be completed by mid-May.  Development includes a large 650m2 multi-purpose space, a cultural room and function rooms that overlook the lake. The area on the lakeside of the building will be further enhanced by a concrete terraced grandstand seating with a capacity of 700 seats”.

The opening of the building is planned for early June.
