Unique partnership signed and sealed

A 10-year sponsorship agreement for Karapiro Domain has today been signed between Waipa District Council and Mighty River Power.

Waipa Mayor Alan Livingston is delighted with the agreement, which will see the area adjacent to the lake to be known as Mighty River Domain.

“It was a natural fit in terms of partnerships.  The environment, heritage and sport and recreation are high priorities for both our organisations, and the Waipa  community.  We are thrilled that Mighty River Power has come on board, and we look forward to a long and positive association.”

Iwi, sporting and community groups and lake users were all consulted, initially around a simple name change and subsequently about naming rights.  Support has been consistent, with groups seeing the process as positive and Mighty River Power as the natural partner for such a relationship.

“The agreement allows Mighty River Power to contribute to the development of the site, which will bring further benefits to the community.  It doesn’t cede any authority or ownership to them beyond any normal protocols associated with naming rights for the duration of the agreement.”

As part of development works, new signage featuring the Mighty River Domain logo will be going up onsite over the next few months.
