Two key aspects of the Waipa 2050 project, the draft Environment Strategy and draft Town Concept Plans for Cambridge, Te Awamutu/Kihikihi, Ohaupo and Pirongia are now available for public feedback.
The Environment Strategy outlines goals for ensuring that our rural environment, special places and character of our towns is protected and enhanced as the District continues to grow. It covers four themes – Council and Community Leadership and Action, Sustainable Rural Environment and Land Use, Heritage and Culture, and Sustainable Communities, identifying a range of issues in each area and possible actions to address them.
The Town Plans set out a vision and blueprint for the future development of the District’s urban centres. They define key elements of existing town character, and provide ideas on how this can be retained and enhanced as towns develop and grow.
Feedback already received from residents has helped to shape the Plans and Strategy, and Waipa 2050 Project Manager Fiona Hill encourages residents to take this further opportunity to be involved in the future planning for their towns.
“The development of the draft Environment Strategy and Town Plans has been heavily influenced by community feedback already received through the Waipa 2050 process, particularly from the recent Growth Strategy process and the Town Vision workshops held earlier this year. I encourage people to let us know if we are on the right track, because it is critical that the thoughts and aspirations of our communities are reflected in these important planning documents.”
Council will be hosting a number of open days to showcase the Plans and Strategy. Times and dates are:
November 2 Ohaupo Memorial Hall 6-8pm
November 4 Cambridge Town Hall 3-6pm
