Shoppers in Te Awamutu may have noticed the “Buy New Zealand Made” banners – Waipa is just one of 16 districts to receive them, and its all part of the national campaign to “buy Kiwi made”.
April marks 100 years since manufacturers and retailers put together the first organised Buy New Zealand made promotion, for New Zealand made products and manufacturing successes. It is also the 20th anniversary of the Buy New Zealand organisation.
Waipa District Council Economic Development Facilitator Phyllis Huitema says the campaign is a great way to encourage shoppers to buy locally where possible.
“We are right behind this initiative, we have many local businesses that provide a range of New Zealand made products, from popcorn to lavender and everything in between, and of course, buying locally keeps our local economy humming.”
This national campaign also includes events and competitions. For further information, see the website www.buykiwimade.govt.nz
