Waipa District Council has been ranked 12th out of 85 local authorities for the processing of resource consents, according to the latest two-yearly statistics from the Ministry for the Environment.
In the 2007/08 period, 603 consents were processed, with 98% completed within the prescribed timeframe of 20 working days. Currently there are just three councils in New Zealand who are processing more consents than Waipa and achieving a higher compliance – Northland Regional, Wellington Regional and Hamilton City.
Council’s Planning Services Manager Wayne Allan was very pleased with the latest ranking, up 3 places from the last survey.
"This is another good result for the Waipa planning team who are focused to ensure decisions on resource consents are undertaken in a timely manner that provides good environmental and business outcomes for the District. We will obviously continue to work on delivering even faster resource consent decisions in the future but being careful not to compromise the essential features that maintains good resource management decision making outcomes being achieved for our residents and business community”
A letter of congratulations was also sent from the Hon Nick Smith.
