Stormwater
Urban development such as roads, buildings, car parks and other recreation facilities create large areas of hard surfaces which rainwater cannot penetrate. When it rains the water that collects and runs off these solid surfaces is called - stormwater runoff
“Council is responsible for the control of stormwater throughout the District. Council monitors the drainage in some rural areas, other areas are jointly monitored with Environment Waikato.”
• Storm water systems are either open channels or piped. Stormwater - often goes directly into natural waterways including the Waikato River
We currently manage:
• 120kms of pipelines
• 2200 manholes
• 230kms of open drains
• Numerous weirs
• Capital upgrades
