Playgrounds, parks & reserves
All public playgrounds and exercise equipment, and community barbecue spaces will remain closed throughout Alert Level 3. We recommend you stay away from equipment and don’t touch any surfaces in these spaces. They will not be maintained or cleaned during this time.
Skate parks and pump tracks will also remained closed at Level 3 due to the risks they pose. Allowing residents to use these facilities could put emergency services and our health care system under unnecessary strain in the case of an accident.
Parks and reserves including dog exercise facilities meanwhile, will remain open as it is important for people to get fresh air and exercise. Please maintain a distance of at least 2 metres for anyone outside your bubble when using these spaces. For more information about COVID-19, head to covid19.govt.nz.
If you'd like to report someone who is not abiding by self-isolation guidelines, please go fill in the breach form at https://forms.police.govt.nz/forms/covid-19-l4-breach.
Can parks and reserves be used for exercise during Alert Level 3?
Keeping moving and getting outdoors is essential for our physical and mental wellbeing.
The advice from the Government is to try and to keep in your bubble as much as possible, and only venture out to public spaces that can be accessed on foot or by bike.
You might be tempted to use outdoor public exercise facilities like playgrounds or community tennis or basketball courts at Alert Level 3. Do not do this. Touching equipment that is outdoors can spread COVID-19 and is a public health risk.
