Broken water main – Pirongia and Te Awamutu

Update: 9am Wednesday, November 12

The repair of the water pipe between Te Awamutu and Pirongia was completed yesterday afternoon and normal service has resumed. There is no longer a need to conserve water.

A big thank you to everyone for their patience and a huge shout out to our waters team for their hard work over the past couple of days.

Update: 1pm Tuesday, November 11

Our waters team have been hard at work this morning repairing the broken water main that disrupted supply to parts of Pirongia and Te Awamutu yesterday afternoon.

• Pirongia’s water supply is now back to normal.
• Te Awamuturesidents may continue to experience low water pressure while repairs are completed.

We’re asking Te Awamutu households and businesses to please continue to conserve water for a little longer to help the network stabilise.

A huge thanks to everyone for your patience, and to our crews on the ground for getting stuck in to get this fixed as quickly and safely as possible.

Monday, November 10

UPDATE 9.45PM: Our Waters team have isolated the problem with the water main - and Pirongia and Te Awamutu residents, your water is flowing again - though rural residents living between Papesch Road and the Pirongia township may still have supply issues.

As water supply has been restored, the two water tankers in Pirongia have been stood down.

Please note that we have restored water by reconfiguring the network, and this means water pressure may be low through until tomorrow. You may experience cloudy (trapped air bubbles) or discoloured water, as the system returns to normal.

If that happens, no worries! This can easily be cleared by running an outside tap until the water runs clear.

UPDATE 9pm: Our Waters team are still working on finding the location of the water main break affecting Pirongia and Te Awamutu. They are now working on a solution to rerouting the water supply for the Pirongia township tonight, however there may still be residents without water. We expect we will be able to update you again in around an hour. When the water does come back on please expect low pressure for some time.

UPDATE 7.40pm: Residents of Frontier Road between numbers 28 and 80 are also without water due to the broken water main. Our team are currently investigating if these properties can have water restored through a reconfiguration of the network. We will update you before 9pm.

Pirongia:
UPDATE 6.55pm: The first water tanker for Pirongia is parked outside Five Stags (815 Franklin Street). The second one will be in place around 7.15pm, at the corner of McClure Street and SH39. Please bring your own containers.
Residents currently have no water due to a broken water main. Crews are on site working to fix it, and water tankers are being arranged - and we will let you know where and when they will be available as soon as we can.

Te Awamutu: Residents are asked to conserve water while crews investigate and repair the broken water main.

Pioneer Drive and Frontier Park: Residents may experience low water pressure as crews work to resolve the water main issue.

We will provide updates as soon as possible.
