Funding for event organisers now open

Event organisers seeking council support to stage events in the Waipa district have extra time to submit their applications this year. District Promotion Fund application forms are now available from council offices or website at, and close on Friday 29 July.
The $100,000 District Promotions Fund was established to encourage organisers to stage events in the district. Events encourage visitors to the district, they better utilise our key sites and facilities, and encourage local residents to get out and enjoy activities close to home.
Events which have previously been supported through the District Promotions Fund range from equine, water sports, public displays, cycle events, festivals and shows, to ball sports of all kinds. The maximum support that could be given to any one event is $10,000.
Council staff are planning an information evening in July to assist event organisers with the application process and ensure they are clear about council’s requirements for providing funding. “We want to make sure those submitting applications to the fund know what we expect in return, that there events will enhance our district economically and attract public support and attendance” says Benjamin Hemi, council event coordinator.
