Waipa District Council closed the elections today with 33.75 per cent of votes returned. Governance manager Jo Gread said the result was pleasing considering the circumstances.
“We knew it was going to be hard with no mayoral race but we’re pleased to see the Waipa community rally together to vote for their local representatives. People may not know that when a Council has no mayoral race, there is an average statistical drop in votes of 10 per cent in the district. The team has worked hard to buck this trend and you can see a good jump in returns from 7.7 per cent returns on 30 September to 33.75 at the close of elections.”
Preliminary results will be available at www.waipadc.govt.nz/elections from 4pm, Sunday 13 October 2019. Final results will be confirmed no later than Thursday 17 October 2019.
