Council ramping up response to Covid-19
Waipā District Council is ramping up its response to Covid-19 to maintain essential services to the district.
Chief executive Garry Dyet said the Council has a Crisis Management Team which has been leading the Council-wide approach and following guidelines from the Ministry of Health.
A key concern has been keeping the community safe at local facilities. The libraries, Te Awamutu Museum and GoWaipa have all reduced visitor numbers to 100 people at a time. Council was considering whether these facilities should be closed following Ministry of Health guidelines.
“Our crisis management team triggers actions depending on the status of the Government’s response to Covid-19.
Dyet said plans were in place to ensure Council would have enough staff at work to keep providing vital services to the community.
“The 14-day self-isolation rules have impacted a small number of staff who are currently overseas and returning to New Zealand. We are working with each staff member on a case by case basis and will be making arrangements for them to work from home.
“We have also been following the government’s guidelines around events, mass gatherings and public meetings.
“We are continually updating our plans as we receive new information and guidelines, so we can continue supporting the health and wellbeing of the community and staff.
Council staff were encouraged to cancel or postpone non-essential travel, practise good hygiene and stay at home if feeling unwell.
