Six river crossing ideas under discussion

Six ideas for improving river crossings in Cambridge will go before a Waipā District Council workshop tomorrow (Friday, May 8).

Elected Members will also consider parking ideas and other ways the town’s transport network could be improved, based on community feedback gathered as part of the Cambridge Connections project.

The community suggested an additional bridge corridor could be located in one of four broad areas – to the east of the town, the far west, west of the town belt, or in town itself.

Other river crossing ideas suggested by the community include increasing the capacity of existing bridges or building a bridge at another location yet to be determined.

The long list of 71 grouped ideas was gathered through the Cambridge Connections’ six-week long public brainstorm. Fifty-five of these ideas are progressing to the next stage, which will develop them into transport options to serve the community over the next 30 years.
