A ribbon was cut and bikes rolled across when another piece of Cambridge’s growing transport network was officially opened at Te Awa Rise this morning.
The new pedestrian and cycling bridge was built by developers Sanderson Group to link the new subdivision with Cambridge Road, the town centre and Te Awa River Ride, while also improving access between Kaipaki and Cambridge Park.
It will now be maintained as a public asset by Waipā District Council, and provides a scenic route for walking and cycling through the area.
The opening brought together representatives from Waipā District Council, Ngāti Koroki Kahukura, Ngāti Hauā, Sanderson Group and Bicycle Revolution to celebrate the project.
Waipā Mayor Mike Pettit said the bridge marks an important step for the growing town.
“As Cambridge continues to grow, it’s important we invest in infrastructure like this. It supports active transport, strengthens connections between neighbourhoods and helps future-proof our town,” he said.
Sanderson Group Chief Executive, Jared Baronian, said the project reflected a long-term vision for the development.
“Te Awa Rise was never just about creating elevated living in Cambridge – it was about building a genuinely connected neighbourhood, and the bridge was always central to that,” Baronian said.
He added the project highlights the value of strong partnerships between developers, iwi and local government.
“This is a great example of what can be achieved through collaboration.”
