Bring your event to life with Waipā’s $75,000 District Promotion Fund
Are you planning a sporting event or festival? Waipā District Council's $75,000 District Promotion Fund could help make it happen.
Customer and business services director Kirsty Downey said events are a powerful way to bring people together while supporting local businesses.
"Waipā has so much to offer visitors. We’re looking to support events that attract people and encourage them to stay longer and create memories.”
One of last year’s successful applicants was the New Zealand National BMX Championships, hosted in Te Awamutu, which was awarded $10,000 and attracted over 680 riders and 4000 spectators. Other events included the Oceania Track Championships, Cambridge Autumn Festival and the Ocean Swim Series at Lake Karāpiro.
The fund will consider if your event:
- Attracts visitors from outside Waipā
- Encourages spending on local accommodation, hospitality, retail and other businesses
- Showcases Waipā as a visitor destination
- Delivers positive economic, promotional and community outcomes.
Applications are open now and close 5pm, Friday, August 21, 2026.
