Sainsbury Forest

Walking and Horse Riding

Council has recently opened the forest for horse riding and walking in addition to mountain bike activity. Until we have installed new maps and signage identifying horse riding and walking tracks we ask that you remain on the forestry roads.

Here you can access information on horse riding in the Sainsbury Reserve.

Dogs are permitted on forestry roads provided that they remain on a leash at all times.  Mountain Bike Club tracks are prohibited for horse riding or walking.  Hunting and motorbikes are prohibited.

Mountain Bike Riding

Mountain bike tracks are open to the public for mountain bike ridingThe Sainsbury Road mountain bike tracks have been developed by the Waipa Mountain Bike Club. Around 8 kilometres of track have been built near the forestry road which climbs the mountain from the end of Sainsbury Road.

The club would appreciate your support in kind and warmly encourage new members. If you’re after further information about the club you can contact President Les McKenzie  on or 021 247 7464.
