Council operates a total of 10 cemeteries within the district, most of which are located near small rural settlements.

Waipā cemeteries provide for around 200 burials each year, with 90% of these being at the three cemeteries: larger cemeteries at Hautapu and Leamington service the Cambridge area, and the Te Awamutu Cemetery services Te Awamutu.

At the Leamington Cemetery, we have opened a Natural Burial section which is to be used solely for natural burials using biodegradable materials. The Natural Burial area will be planted in native trees in lieu of headstones, and location of plots will be recorded on Council database using a GPS.
