Cemetery locations
Waipā cemeteries provide for around 200 burials each year, with most of these being at the three larger cemeteries, Hautapu, Leamington and Te Awamutu.

Private cemeteries
Hairini Catholic Cemetery and Ōhaupō Catholic Cemetery are private cemeteries. The Council carry out interments on behalf of the Church. Please contact the Catholic Diocese for records or information.
Tokonui Hospital Cemetery was in use from as early as June 1914 until 1964. The Hospital during this time was responsible for all burials and burial records. The cemetery is now on private farm.
Te Awamutu Cemetery – Automatic Gate Installation
To help keep Te Awamutu Cemetery a respectful, safe and peaceful place for everyone, we’re installing two new automatic gates.
At present, farm-style gates are opened and closed each day by security staff. Moving to automatic gates will make access easier to manage, particularly after hours, and will continue to help prevent unauthorised vehicles entering the cemetery.
Installation will take place from Monday 15 June to Tuesday 30 June at the Te Rahu Road entrance (new entrance) and Piquet Hill Road entrance (southern entrance).
The cemetery will remain open to the public throughout the works.
Once installed, the gates will operate automatically at the following times:
- Winter: 7am – 7pm
- Summer (daylight savings): 6am – 9.30pm (from the last Sunday in September to the first Sunday in April)
