Medical waste and animal health products
Medical waste and animal health products are non-recyclable and non-compostable.
These items must be disposed of in a hazardous bin or double bagged and put into your rubbish bin, and needles into a sharps bin.
Medical waste, such as used blood bags, tubing, needles, syringes, used catheters and incontinence pads, and animal health products, such as vaccinations and calcium bags to treat milk fever, put staff at serious risk when they are put into the recycling.
If you aren’t sure of how to dispose of these items, please call your local District Health Board or veterinary clinic for advice.
Any unused medication can be returned to your local pharmacy and any unused vaccinations or medicine for pets, to your local vet clinic.
We need your help to keep staff safe by ensuring only clean and correct items are placed into your yellow and blue wheelie bins.
