Waipa Economy
Waipā
has remained the strongest district economy in New Zealand. The resilient
agricultural sector in Waipā helped keep up economy momentum throughout
lockdowns, with solid dairy prices supporting farmers, contractors, suppliers
and food processing in the area.
Consumer
and domestic visitor spending has held up in spite of lockdowns. Minimal international
migration has limited population growth, but growth has come from internal
migration, predominantly out of Auckland, with the resident population sitting
at nearly 60,000. Investment in housing, industry and commercial is very
strong.
