Bylaws
Bylaws are rules or regulations we make, under national legislation, that affects how people live, work and play.
They are designed to protect both our district and your rights and aim to make our district a safe and healthy place.
Bylaws are broadly made to:
- protect the public from nuisance
- protect, promote, and maintain public health and safety
- minimise the potential for offensive behaviour in public places
The consequences of not complying with a bylaw can result in fines, seizure of property and remedial action. Bylaws can be enforced by Council staff or external agencies like the New Zealand Police.
