Waipā is celebrating the great outdoors next week with a range of fun, free activities for Parks Week, a national campaign to recognise the crucial role open spaces play in creating thriving communities.
Parks Week runs from Monday, March 3, and Community Services manager Brad Ward said with more than 200 fantastic green spaces in Waipā, it’s a great time to appreciate and acknowledge them.
“Let’s celebrate our parks and reserves and the incredible work our teams do to maintain and enhance them for the community – from parks, reserves and green spaces to playgrounds and cemeteries,” he said.
Waipā District Council is putting on a variety of free activities throughout the week, including Kids' Storytime, Zumba in the Park, and Novels in Nature where people can bring their own book or enjoy one of the books supplied to read in Gwyneth Common, Cambridge and War Memorial Park, Te Awamutu.
Self-guided activities are also available, including suggestions on ways to travel to local parks in new and different ways.
People can also vote for their favourite Waipā park in daily social media polls.
“We are privileged in Waipā to have around 4,000 hectares dedicated to open spaces for people to enjoy. Being out in nature is great for our wellbeing, so I encourage everyone to explore and make the most of them.”
