A Waipā District Council staff member is making waves in the world of infrastructure asset
management, earning national recognition for her expertise.
Charmian Stone, an asset planning engineer in the waters team, has been officially
accredited as an Asset Management Associate by Āpōpō – the lead professional association
for New Zealand’s infrastructure asset managers.
The programme recognises professionals for their skills and knowledge when it comes to
managing the pipes, roads, parks, and public facilities that keep communities running
smoothly across Aotearoa.
“I’m really excited to be recognised by Āpōpō - it’s a great milestone,” said Stone. “Asset
management might not always be visible, but it plays a huge role in keeping everything
running smoothly behind the scenes.”
As an associate, Charmian has been acknowledged as someone who can confidently tackle
complex asset management challenges and use expert technical skills to support smart
decision-making.
Water services manager, Karl Pavlovich, says the recognition is well deserved. “Charmian is
a vital member of our water asset management team. She brings deep technical insights
and a strong strategic mindset to everything she does,” he said.
“To have her skills formally recognised at a national level is fantastic, and it reflects not only
her commitment to professional growth, but also the calibre of talent we’re lucky to have
here at Waipā.”
Charmian’s associate status is a nationally recognised quality mark and an important step
toward becoming a fully chartered professional.
“Asset management became my passion shortly after joining Waipā four years ago, and
being part of a team that supports my growth has been great,” Stone added. "There is still a
lot to learn, and I am looking forward to continuing to develop on my path towards becoming
a Chartered Professional.”
